Cupping / Hijama Therapy

Cupping (or the Arabic term Hijama) is an ancient form of alternative medicine and works by applying special cups on specific points or locations around the body to remove any stagnation or blockages of blood.

These suction cups on the body correspond to specific organs or systems in the body. They work by creating a vacuum on the skin and this brings to the surface any blockages, stagnation, toxins or impurities away from the affected areas and ready for elimination through blood letting.

Liverpool Iridology currently only uses two cupping techniques:

1. Wet: involves blood letting using scarification
2. Dry: focuses on stimulation and no blood letting

We use the process of scarification, which is making small cuts or lesions on the outer skin surface and this enables the body to release the toxins. (also known as wet cupping)

As it is a therapy within its own right, it is safe, non invasive and inexpensive and is designed to help relieve any pain, or discomfort that arises from many inflammatory conditions. It helps the body begin to cleanse and therefore strengthen its vital organs, improve the body's immunity and ability to heal whilst working towards optimal health.

The technique can be used for a variety of reasons and the most common ones include:

  • Pain
  • Inflammation
  • Blood flow
  • Relaxation and well being
  • Acts like a deep tissue massage

We also offer the Sunnah Hijama and have been trained by a teacher who has followed in this tradition with an authentic transmission to the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) at the College of Unani Tibb and Alternative Medicine (CUTAM), Manchester UK. CUTAM

For Sunnah Hijama, We do not offer this therapy on Wednesdays or Saturdays

During the Autumn and Winter season, cupping is not recommended in cold climates and will be conducted unless there is a specific medical reason for doing so.

The cost in clinic is £40 based on the application of 7 suction cups and £60 for a home visit within the Liverpool area.

If the treatment is a specific area, such as back, or leg and requiring less than the the application of 7 cups, then the price will be reduced to reflect this.
